Text Box: Merrill's Honeybees
(Merrilland Apiaries)
Pictures from the Bee Yard

Text Box: As we gather more photos throughout the year, we'll put them up on the site.

Text Box: A typical hive consists of the following:

1 screened bottom board

2 deep hive bodies - this is the hives brood nest where the queen lays her eggs

1 Queen excluder - this a metal screen that allows only worker bees through. This is used so that the queen does not lay eggs in the honey supers.

1-5 honey supers - a "super" is where nectar is stored and processed into honey by the bees.

1 Inner cover - this is a cover that keeps the bees from "gluing" the top down to the top of the hive. They "glue" the inner cover down which can be easily pried loose.

1 Telescoping Top Cover
